Books Inside
What is Books Inside?
Books are age-old tools for individualized learning. Portable and inexpensive, they can go inside prisons and jails where opportunities for learning may be limited, visitors infrequent, and new ways of thinking rare. A book can be a friend, a teacher, an invitation to explore/an adventure.
Books Inside's mission and purpose is to ensure that quality books are available inside prisons and jails adding to the chance that incarcerated individuals may see other possibilities for the direction of their life experiences. On the ‘outside’ old, dog-eared books may be worthless, but on the ‘inside’ they are priceless.
DiverseCity Writing Series King's English Group
Join our community writing program which offers multiple, on-going writing groups throughout the Salt Lake metropolitan area. Find inspiration through feedback and writing prompts in open-interest or specialized groups. Submit work to sine cera, the DiverseCity Writing Series anthology, and participate in public readings. DWS writing groups are supported by volunteer mentors and meet twice a month throughout the year. Within these groups, participants share and discuss their writing and generate new writing ideas.
The Kings English Group, open to the public, meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
For more writing group information, you can contact Faye Fischer, DiverseCity Writing Series Coordinator, at 801-957-2192 or faye.fischer@slcc.edu.
