The King's English Bookstore is Proud to Employ All the Wonderful Booksellers, Experts, & Even Authors (!)

Margaret Brennan Neville
Founder & Owner of The King's English Bookshop
When the Bookmobile lady told my mom I needed a bigger library, we started going to the Sprague branch. I started reading the books at "A," and a little over a year later finished up at "Z." Off to the downtown library and the controversial paintings... Reading is still a force in my life, along with my husband, three kids, family, and a wide circle of wonderful friends.

Aaron Cance
Shipping & Mailing
Aaron holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin, an M.A. in British and American Literature from the University of Utah, and has worked in the book industry for eighteen years in virtually every capacity. His reading preferences include Japanese Literature, Russian Literature, Literature of the 18th Century, and Mr. Putter & Tabby. He lives in Holladay with his wife Katherine and 5 year old daughter, Viola Wren, who has already developed a hunger for stories of all shapes and sizes.

Ann Cannon
Bookseller
Utah native Ann Cannon is a bookseller, newspaper columnist and award-winning children's author who once wrote a series of easy readers about two stupid pirates. In order to better understand her characters, Pirate Pete and Pirate Joe, Ann spent some time wearing an eye patch. What did she learn from the experience? "That it's hard to see when you wear an eye patch." Ann and her husband, Ken, have five sons, three daughters-in-law, a gorgeous grandchild, and a house full of pets, including a dog that weighs 180 pounds. Ann's newest picture book, Sophie's Fish, is slated for publication in 2011.

Anne "AB" Brillinger
Bookseller
From her earliest memory, AB has never been without a dog or a book. She lives with one of the former (Hannah, The Miniature Schnauzer) and a thousand or so of the latter in the TKE neighborhood. In 40 years of (mostly) nonprofit public relations work, she's had the good fortune to promote things she believes in and have fun while she's at it. Her Irish luck continues with her King's English assignment, helping to publicize events for writers and readers. AB spends her downtime as she has for decades, desperately trying to play tennis like Martina.

Anne Holman
Store Manager
My mom used to yell at me to come out from the other side of the bed and play with my friends who had come over to visit. It wasn't that I didn't want to play; it was just that a book, pretty much any book, had caught my attention and carried me away. A reader since I was old enough to hold a book, it never occurred to me that a person could actually have a JOB where books and people could come together and one could actually earn money doing it. A brief stint at Waldenbooks at the old Crossroads Mall in Salt Lake City cemented my love for working in a bookstore. Even processing "returns" was fascinating to me. Next came a job at the circulation desk at the Salt Lake City public library which was really fun but not the same as retail. Many years and two kids later I found myself back in Salt Lake. The King's English has been my home away from home for over a decade now and I can't imagine doing anything else.

Barbara Hoagland
Retired Co-Owner of The King's English
Only recently retired as co-owner of The King's English for many years, Barbara divides her time these days between Utah and California. Always and forever a voracious reader, we continue to count on Barbara's reading for the Inkslinger.

Becky Hall
Bookseller
Becky has been a book lover all her life. When she was little, she read every one of the children’s biographies in her local library. She became an elementary school teacher and finally found her way to the best job in the world as the elementary school librarian at Rowland Hall. Since retiring in June, she discovered the best part-time job in the world: working at The King’s English. She still loves helping kids and parents find the perfect children’s books, but now she has time to work on her writing too. She’s also enjoying more time hiking with family and friends and playing with her puppy Zoey, a West Highland Terrier born November 4, 2014.

Betsy Burton
Co-Founder/Co-Owner of The King's English Bookshop
Betsy Burton is the co-owner and co-founder of The King's English Bookshop. In addition to her life as a bookseller, she is also an activist for all things local. Her book, The King's English: Adventures of an Independent Bookseller, continues to be a bestseller at our little shop. In her spare time, Betsy is working on a book about her son, a young man with some disabilities and some extraordinary abilities as well. She still loves the book business as much as she did when she started over thirty years ago.

Betsy Prouty
Bookseller
Betsy Friday of Pgh. Pa, a child of the 50's, grew up in a family of readers. Each Tuesday night, my family visited The Carnegie Library where Miss Russell treated us like we were VIP's. She is my heroine. Flash forward through an English Lit major from Wittenberg University and marriage to Bill Prouty, you'll find me with 3 children and careers in Teaching, Real Estate Sales and Organization.
2014: My husband's job brought us to Salt Lake. With the gift of time, I can pursue my interests. Plain and simple, I always wanted to work in a Library or Bookstore. Being part of The King's English community is a joyful and interesting opportunity for me. I'm surrounded by talented fun booksellers, well-chosen books and interesting customers. There is nothing not to love.

Connie Romboy
Seasonal Bookseller
Connie has been with the bookstore for many years however she and her husband, Rod, bought a condo in Greece about eight years ago and now we only see her about five months out of every year. Living on an island in Greece with lots of books and time...hmmm. No wonder she's been able to read every New York Review of Books title published so far.

DawnAnn Owens
Book Seller
DawnAnn is so happy to be part of The King's English community. She loves the environment of the bookstore - it is the perfect place to discover beautifully written books and to discuss them with customers and fellow booksellers.

Dawn Houghton

...Is always Aspiring.

Jan Sloan

Kathy Ashton
Editor of The Inkslinger, Author,
Kathy Ashton is Editor Emerita (too old and too tired to work that hard any more) of The Inkslinger (the store newsletter). Her nonfiction has also been published in Network and Sunstone magazines, and she was delighted to have one of her Booksense blurbs published in their New Yorker ad. She is a former Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and is currently working on her first novel, which she hopes will be finished some time in this millennium. She holds a degree in English from Westminster College.

Kenneth Loosli
Social Media Marketing Expert
Kenneth was stricken with bibliomania at an early age and has never recovered. He has spent his entire career working with words in one way or another and finding his condition perhaps hopeless, he has returned to TKE after an eleven-year absence to help with its social media marketing efforts and to be around books all the time. You can follow his book-obsessed Instagram feed @libraryofavalon.

Linda Gurrister
Bookseller
Linda Gurrister is a long time Utah resident. She is a practicing psychotherapist and has been for 25 years. She is also a "closet bibliophile" who has recently "come out." Her decision to work at The King's English combines her passion for good books with her love of people. It feels like a natural progression to move from helping people solve problems or improve a sense of self to matching the right book with each unique customer.

Nathan Spofford
Bookseller
Loves Books, Art, & Books about Art.

Noble Williamson
Customer Magnet
Barnes got mad at me so went crazy and started working at a local bookshop.

Paula Longhurst
Bookseller
Originally from England, Paula has been living in Salt Lake for ten years. A self-professed NaNoWriMo addict (she’s completed it four times now), blogger (Cool Books) and avid reader she loves a good twisted mystery but anything with a great story will grab her attention. Paula lives with her husband Chris and Dory the cat. Favorite authors include PD James, Mark Frost, Jasper Fforde, Laurie King, Noah Boyd, Tana French, PJ Tracy, Lisa Lutz, Chris Ewan and Christopher Fowler.

Rachel Haisley
Bookseller
Rachel practically grew up in Children's Room at the King's English, which means that now, she has her dream job. She loves everything from picture books to mysteries with killer endings to big thick historical tomes, but really, she just likes books that make her laugh (which isn't hard to do). Aside from reading, Rachel likes puppies, hip-hop, funky shoes, and bad knock-knock jokes. Feel free to share your favorite ones with her!

Rob Eckman
Storyteller & Kid's Room Manager
Rob is our genius storyteller, the emperor of the kids' room, and the best wearer of the Dr. Seuss story hat we've ever seen. You really must come check him out. There's nothing like the perfect story, happily told.

Rosie Neville

I’ve had the great pleasure to grow up in this bookstore surrounded by many great people and great reads. I’m really excited to work in the store as a bookseller.

Sally Larkin

Long time customer and insatiable reader, Sally is versatile in all areas of the store. Go ahead and try to stump her!

Sarah Ray
Accountant
Dan and I are excited about our new Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory opening at City Creek, March 22, 2012. I hope it doesn't cut in to my reading time too much! Ella is now almost 6, she's lost 4 teeth in the last month, and she loves kindergarten and learning to read. Sofie will be 3 at the end of March. Her picks include princesses and Dora. And we've been reading the Potty book a lot. Hopefully, it will help get her out of diapers soon!

Sue Fleming
Book Finder & Bookseller
Several years ago I completed a very satisfying career as a nurse with communities, hospitals, colleges and for the Utah Army National Guard. I love working for The King's English and am having a grand experience reading everything as fast as I can! It is such a pleasure to help a customer find just the right book for that “difficult to buy for” person. I especially enjoy history, science, historically based novels and mysteries. Children’s and young adult books that deal with issues for specific ages and events are sought after as well.

Vivian Evans
Children's Book Expert & Bookseller
A long time member and former president of The Children's Literature Association of Utah, Vivian loves people and books. When the two come together, she is especially happy.

Wendy Foster Leigh
Bookseller
Retired English teacher and administrator, she finds nothing more wonderful than having a cat on the knee and a book in hand. She is an Anglophile and lover of mystery and fantasy novels--often set in the wilds of Lancashire or Yorkshire. Recently returned to Utah after 20 years, The King's English Bookshop has become the key to finding old friends and making new ones whether they are in the flesh or on the page.

Whitney Berger
Bookseller
