Today is my Official One-Year Mark of Training Shotokan. I've made a lot of progress but I still have a long journey ahead of me. I am very grateful for all the onderful people in our dojo, like Sensei Niang, Jim, Miss Leah, Idy, & many others. I love karate so much because it saved me from some really violent situations that used to be everyday life for me. It is like i was living in darkness and I didn't know anything else so i felt content; but then karate was a candle that lit up the world and i saw the horrific things that were happening, and now looking back at my life when i lived in darkness makes me terribly sad. Karate is my refuge. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Some say it is a gift from God, and every day I find myself agreeing more.
